A Letter from Barry Zekelman
Dear Fellow Canadians,
The Buy Canadian Act, introduced on September 5, 2025, represents a powerful opportunity to reinforce our commitment to one another. It is a commonsense policy that ensures our tax dollars are reinvested right back into our own communities, supporting Canadian workers and their families. Supporting this act is about more than just economics; it is a statement of national pride and a vote of confidence in our own people and our own products.
At the heart of our country, communities, and economy is our steel industry. The very backbone of Canada. From the skyscrapers that define our cities to the infrastructure that connects our communities, Canadian steel has provided the strength and durability to build our nation.
Today, this critical industry and the countless livelihoods it supports face a significant challenge from foreign steel imports. When we allow foreign materials to be used in our projects, we are not just building with steel of uncertain quality; we are exporting our jobs, weakening our economy, and undermining our own national self-sufficiency. This is a price too high for any of us to pay.
We are a nation of builders, and it is time to rebuild our focus on what matters most: our own country. We must stand together to ensure that Canadian projects are built by Canadians, with Canadian materials.
This is where you can make a real difference. We are asking for your help as a proud Canadian. If you see a job site or know of a project using foreign steel, I encourage you to speak up. Let your local representatives know, inform industry associations, and create a public conversation. Your voice is essential in holding projects accountable and ensuring our nation is built with the strength and integrity of Canadian steel.
Let’s work together to keep our industries strong and our country thriving for generations to come.
Sincerely,

Barry Zekelman
